Hello, I’m Risu, a blogger who loves to enjoy Kyoto without spending a lot of money!

This time, I went to Rissei Library, an Instagrammable spot in Kyoto that only a few people know about!

It was great to lie down on the wide lawn.

I was able to read books for free at the library!

Recommended points
  • It stands out on the spacious lawn!
  • It feels great to lie down on the grass!

What is Rissei Library?

A 3-minute walk from Kyoto Kawaramachi Station.

Located in an alley just off the beaten path from the lively area,

this is a complex called “Rissei Garden Hulic Kyoto,” which is lined with stylish restaurants and shops.

Apparently Rissei Elementary School has been renovated and is set to reopen in 2020!

And in one corner of the park is the free spot we’ll be introducing today, Rissei Library! Entry is free, and of course you can read books there.

It was a wonderful time reading a book about Kyoto in a quiet space.

And the lawn in front of Rissei Library, which looks perfect for Instagram, is also a free area!

It is called “Rissei Square” and is open to the public.

It’s a great place for couples, families, and friends to spend some relaxing time together!

Unfortunately, you can’t take books from Rissei Library onto the lawn for free, but the annual membership fee is only 1,000 yen…

Reading Membership Benefits
  • Books from the library are available for loan
  • Picnic sets available for loan (picnic sheet, blanket, basket) for use at Ritsumeikan Plaza
  • Free coffee (500 yen) from the cafe “Traveling Coffee” on the first floor of the facility

If you go there often, it’s a good idea to become a member so you can read books on the lawn!

However, you can still have a lot of fun even if it’s free!
Read a book in the library, and when you get tired, lie down on the grass… why not try spending some wonderful time like this!
